Cardboard Family Boat Race

The Pool is shut down for the Boeing, so we have created an at home family project for you and your family to create. When the pool re-opens the race will be on!

Safety

1. Your structure of the vessel cannot interfere with your crew making a hasty exit if your boat sinks. Everyone must have a clear exit from the vessel.

2. Anyone who has not passed the swim test will need to wear a floatation device

Boat

1. Design of you boat is up to you.

2. The only materials to use for building your boat: cardboard and duct tape.

3. Only cardboard, or corrugated cardboard may be used. Cardboard may not have any wax, resin or vinyl coating.

4. Wood, plastic or plastic wrap, fiberglass, metal, Styrofoam or other materials that would aid in floatation or make the boat more rigid are prohibited.

5. Tar, wax, silicone, fiberglass resins, epoxy glues, staples, nails, clamps and screws are prohibited.

6. Decorations may be made of any material but cannot help keep the boat together or afloat. But highly encouraged.

7. Boats may be painted with water-based paint and sealer must be dry before the boat enters the water.

8. Boats are subject to inspection and may be disqualified for not meeting any one of the stated rules.

Race

1. Race course consists of 50 meters (there and back)

2. Boats can be propelled by oars, paddles or “convenient body part”, kick boards, Oars or paddles may be constructed of cardboard or the real thing.

3. Each team must have two people in the boat.

Awards

Boats will be judged, and prizes awarded for the following categories:

Fastest Boat, Best Decorated, Team Spirit, and Titanic Award.
